How to replace Fisher & Paykel washing machine Rotor Position Sensor

The F&P washer main bearings were shot. I successfully tore the machine all the way down and replaced the bearings and main seal. However, the Rotor Position Sensor plug would not re-connect correctly to the harness. I think something breaks when it is unplugged. Hence, the new RPS.

Repair & Advice
Main bearings sounded like a freight train. Several videos on this model's bearing replacement were watched several times on Youtube. I have never taken a washing machine completely apart so....heck yeah I was nervous about it. But, wife and both really like this machine. F& P engineering is pretty impressive. Most things came apart easily. The only possible drawback is all the plastic tabs that are used to hold parts together. They are easy to work with as long as none of the the little snap tabs break. I think one broke on me but it was not a critical one. Okay there. I almost gave up on the RPS but then I saw on this site that a replacement had been created that had the wiring harness permanently connected to it. Hooray for F&P. The new position sensor came with a separate harness that replaced the old harness where it plugs into the main board. The instructions will explain how to do this. I wrapped the new harness in black tape for extra protection. Black tape was also placed on any sheet metal edges that the harness came close to. Snapping the RPS into the stator is a little tricky because the snap tabs are hard to spot. Line up the arrows and keep looking. There is a channel molded onto the washer top that holds the harness, lid switch wire and pressure hose. It works fine for the original harness and hose but is too small when the additional harness is added. So I drilled a hole in the top close to the channel and relocated the lid switch wire through it using black tape again for protection. Then there was room for the harnesses in the channel. Make sure that top switch wire can't come into contact with the tub. Our 2010 F&P washer has had 2 or 3 pumps and a new wiring harness and board because the original wiring harness rubbed against the sheet metal and shorted. Repairman did that one. He noticed the new harness had lots of black tape at the problem point so F&P has kept up with correcting problems. The washer is humming along just fine now. Happy wife-happy life. Other advice-I made a detailed drawing of the wiring connections on the main board although the connections are labeled (in very small letters). Clean the tubs when they are out, ours get pretty dirty. Soak the water inlet tube in vinegar if it has deposits on it like ours always does. If possible, go slow, be patient because this is doable for a non-trained individual. I wish F&P still sold top lid washers in the States but ...not anymore.

Problem
Fisher Paykel top load washer stopped running in middle of spin cycle. Control Pane will not power up.
Tools
Phillips head screwdriver, 3/8” socket, 5/8” socket
Repair & Advice
Fisher Paykel top load washer stopped running in middle of spin cycle. Reset Control Panel and tried to restart. Control panel went out. Initially thought problem was bad Control Panel. Ordered new Control Panel. Installed new Control Panel. Plugged washer in and Control Panel powered up as normal. Advanced Control Panel to Spin Cycle. Hit “start” and Control Panel immediatet went out again. Searched internet for probable cause. Was suggested it was probably a bad RPS Sensor. Ordered a new RPS Sensor from the Parts Dr. New sensor arrived in less than a week. Also had Control Panel replaced at same time. Installed both new items… Control Panel and RPS Sensor. Plugged washer in… Control Panel powered up as normal. Loaded washer to wash. Wash machine runs like new. Washer has been running great ever since. Thank you Parts Dr. Will highly recommend. Wil be first place I contact for any future appliance repair needs.
