Ice maker not working after frosting over multiple times
Tools
Phillips head and flat blade screwdriver.
Repair & Advice
The old ice maker in our high end Samsung refrigerator froze up several times and based on internet searches it looked like a pretty common problem. I tried a couple of methods found on the internet to thaw it out. That worked a few times then the ice maker stopped working entirely and I've just been filling the bin from ice trays ever since. Finally decided to see if I could fix it myself and came across the Parts Dr video on youtube. The buttons on my panel don't seem to be consistent with any other models - meaning basically I couldn't power defrost - so I just unplugged the refrigerator for a few minutes and used cups of hot water in the bin area and the blow dryer to thaw the coil. I watched the Parts Dr "how to" video before starting which really was helpful then I took the old ice maker out once just to see if the total thaw would get it working again but it didn't help. So I ordered the new ice maker - sounded like the "C" model was improved over my "A" version. I put the new one in and about 10 minutes later I heard it fill with water - the old one hadn't done that in about 2 years. It's been in around a month and it's keeping the bin full and so far it doesn't appear to be frosting over at all. I appreciate the effort Parts Dr made to put up the video as well as making it easy to find and obtain the right part. So far all is well!

Repair & Advice
I purchased a used Samsung refrigerator that was being sold because the ice maker quit making ice. I found the Parts Dr. video on how to change out the ice maker and purchased the appropriate ice maker. Two screws is all that was needed to remove. My model refrigerator was slightly different from the model that was in the video so it took several tries to find the appropriate buttons to force defrost the ice maker. I first tried just turning the ice maker off and using a hair dryer to defrost the ice make. That didn't work because while the ice maker was off the cooling coil was still keeping things nice and cold in the ice maker compartment. As soon as I removed the heat the water would refreeze. Once I figured out which buttons I needed to press to put the unit in forced defrost everything went smoothly. All in all I spent less than half an hour replacing the ice maker. The only advice that I have is watch the appropriate video from Parts Dr. and figure out how to force defrost the unit.

Repair & Advice
I saw a number of videos on YouTube on issues and repair instructions. By far, the best videos were done by Parts Dr which allowed me to both replace the ice maker and to seal the ice making compartment in order to reduce frosting issues. I followed all instructions - which were excellent and also sealed two small gaps between the ice maker and refrigerator compartment. It has now been almost 2 weeks. The ice maker makes more ice now than it did when the refrigerator was new and there is (so far) no ice build-up on the ice maker. Although the ice maker was a few dollars more than other sellers on line - I will ALWAYS seek parts and videos from the Parts Dr. when the need arises in the future. THANK YOU.
