Problem
We were getting an error message on the front control panel that the main control board and the dispenser control board were not communicating correctly. The inside lights for the freezer and refrigerator were not working and the ice and water dispensers were not functioning. The refrigerator and freezer were staying cold. From the research I did, the most likely problem was either the main control board was bad or the dispenser control board was bad. But I also read that you could not change just one of the boards and that they neeed to be changed together. I first checked to make sure the connections were on right on the existing boards and that there were nonlose wires causing the issue. I then changed both boards, which was very easy.

A wrench and a flashlight
Repair & Advice
The control board was very easy to get out, though a bit tricky to get back in. To get out, just pop off the bottom trim off the refrigerator (the toe piece that runs across the front the the refrigerator under the doors) and the main control board is about 1/3 of the way over from the left. There are two bolts you need to get out. They are not too tight but you have to either have the right socket set (which the average DIYer probably does not have) or be a bit nimble with a wrench to get the bolts loses enough to turn with your hand. Once they are out the board slips right out. Pop the new one in and then slide it back in place and tighten the two nuts. However, sliding it back in place is something that takes patience and persistence. You will be able to do it, but it is hard to finesse the back side of the lip into the recess. The hard part is you cannot see it and you cannot really feel when it is in place, as it does not snap in place or feel right. It took me several attempts before I had it in the right location. Really trial and error and just looking at it and making sure it looks like it is in the right position.

Repair & Advice
had a power surge, due to storm. Refrigerator came back on with codes. But no other power. So after researching and figuring what part was needed, PARTS DR. Had what I needed. It actually arrived sooner than said. All I needed was a screwdriver and that was it. Plugged my refrigerator back in, and it was working. Parts Dr. is my new go-to for all appliance needs
