Repair & Advice
When I encountered the high temperature, I first checked that power was being sent to the compressor. Not finding any voltage, I then went up the schematic directly to the T-Stat terminals. I installed a jumper, made from a piece of paper clip, across the pins associated with the switching (I forget which two, maybe two and three) of the compressor, plugged the unit in, and everything came on, i.e., fan, compressor... After opening up the T-Stat, and finding no obvious burned out components, I chose to review articles on-line, and found one describing how my T-Stat was acting: could only turn temperature setting down, not up. Display characters were missing segments, but would all light up when power was cycled.
I then searched the Sears Parts Direct for a part#, and then the internet for the quickest shipping and best price. I found partsdr.com had the best offering and immediately ordered the unit. Upon arrival, it was just a matter of plugging/snapping the T-Stat into the recess in the freezer door.
