Repair & Advice
It’s in a tight spot. You may need help from someone holding the drum out of the way. The actual repair is easy it’s just in a tight spot like I said. Unplug old part plug in new part.

Problem
GE front load washer, over time the door lock was more and more frequently failing to lock the door. Mechanism would make a faint 'click' sound, but not the louder sound that it makes when the door successfully locks. 'door lock' indicator would not light up in the display. In my case, the part did not completely fail quickly, the problem got worse over a couple of weeks and then finally it stopped working completely.
Tools
needle nose pliers to remove the spring-loaded wire 'hoop' that holds the front door rubber gasket in place; philips screwdriver to remove/replace the locking mechanism.
Repair & Advice
Look online, there are at least 1 or two youtube videos that show how to replace these GE front loader door locks via the front of the machine. There is one video for my specific machine that showed the guy removing the entire top of the machine and getting to the lock mechanism from the top, but that is not necessary. Look for a video where a guy removes a spring-loaded wire hoop/ring that is holding the front door gasket in place. It's an easy and quick job going through the front. I have stacking washer/dryer with the dryer on top, so I really didn't want to have to remove the top of the washer!
