Problem
The Dishwasher never really got the dishes CLEAN anymore, and started having a problem with residue buildup on the interior
Tools
One small adjustable wrench, one Phillips screwdriver, one pair of needle nose pliers
Repair & Advice
The water never really heated up anymore, thankfully like most appliances the repair manual and schematics were taped inside the front floor cover which indicated that the water was supposed to get to 165 degrees. I had the bright idea to stick my remote meat thermometer in the water and let a cycle run which showed the water never got over my 120 degree tap temp.
Using an ohm meter and the repair manual my factory element should have had 10-15 ohms I think, mine showed a complete open, thus I ordered a new element and was very pleased with how quick it showed up, the fitment, price and the repair overall.
Step by step.
1: unplug washer
2: remove front lower cover
3: slide out washer out far enough to get my hands under the rear at the back
4: use needle nose pliers to disconnect wiring from old heater element
5: use adjustable wrench to remove old plastic retaining nuts
6: installation is reverse of removable, however pay attention to the directions and do no over tighten the new retaining nuts.
7: ( optional ) burn your lip on a freshly washed mug because the washer can actually heat them during the dry cycle now. ( totally optional, I don't recommend it )

Repair & Advice
As described in other reviews, I turned off the power, unscrewed the clips holding the DW to the counter, pulled the DW out, put down a towel, took the removable rack out, turned the DW on it's face, disconnected the heating element wires, unscrewed the element retaining lugs, tipped the DW back up, removed the broken element, installed the new element, turned the DW back on it's face, installed the element retaining clips, reinstalled the wires, turned the DW back upright. Checked the heating element to ensure it was tightly against the tub, reinstalled the rack, pushed the DW back under the counter, reattached the screws to the counter, turned on the power, cleaned up the towel and any stray water and ran a test load. All was fine. Very easy. DW works great now.

We're idiots and we still were able to do in a few minutes. Just watch some videos first.
