Problem
Top Loader lid hinge broke
Tools
Phillips Screwdriver
Repair & Advice
Lift the lid, then remove the plates on the left and right side of the lid to access the screws that will allow you to remove the left and right hinges and remove the lid. Then remove two screws located on the top, towards the front of the machine, then remove two screws towards the top of the back of the machine. Lift the top of the washer up to gain access to two screws that secure this hinge. Now pull the plastic hinge straight up to remove it. Push the new hinge in place and install the two screws that secure the hinge.

Repair & Advice
I have an LG model top loader. Am guessing that it is slightly different from the other different label washers mentioned here. Remove the caps at the hinges by just prying gently so you can see the hinge. Then, six screws to remove first, two on top front, two in upper back and two in middle back where top control unit meets body of washer. The two in front are covered by caps which can be pried off easily but are VERY delicate. I managed to only break half of one prong. The other screws remove easily though, although I found the electric driver handy, then lift up the top part of the washer. Only issue is the wiring is tied on so you cannot lift it all the way up -- better to have an extra set of hands for a bit or something to hold the top up. Two more screws underneath hinge cover to remove, then just lift it straight up. At this point I removed the three screws holding the hinge on because I could not see that you could set it in easily without doing so. Worked. The reassemble without dropping any screws in or behind the washer.
