Problem
The damper between the freezer and fridge wouldn't stay open, causing a frequent, loud clicking sound.
Tools
Nut driver or ratchet set.
Repair & Advice
In order to remove the trim piece covering the damper assembly, the upper trim piece at the front of the refrigerator (with temperature displays) needs to be loosened first. Removal and replacement of the damper assembly is a piece of cake. Removing and replacing the food on the top shelf took longer than the actual repair process.

Temps in the fridge part of our side by side kept dropping to freeing. This had happened before and it turned out humidity had caused ice build up and door was not closing. Was fine for 2 years. This time the little spring broke, no replacement part available, and although I bent the spring so it kept the door closed, the temp was not regulating. Finally I broke down and ordered the replacement part-- very easy to replace and all is great.
