Repair & Advice
I came downstairs in the middle of the night to hear the dishwasher humming like it was draining. I opened the door and rolled back the basket to find no water in the bottom and the water shut off float laying across the heating element. Half of the float was a melted glob of plastic, but the other half was recognizable. I went online and was surprised to find the part. The dishwasher is 22 years old (Whirlpool). When the part arrived, I placed it in the hole that it sits in. When I turned on the dishwasher, there was no water flowing in. It appeared like the part was installed but I found that I had to push down on it to get it to properly seat. That last half inch is all it took to get the water valve to open. No need for a service technician!
