Problem
Dyer was making a thumping/clucking noise each cycle of the drum rotation.
Tools
Phillips/flathead screwdriver, 1/4" socket set, a special bit.
Repair & Advice
Due to the drum bearing wear, the shaft and bracket assembly needed replacing. Note that you do not need to purchase the bearing retainer o-ring, the shaft comes with one. Three screws hold the assembly in place and it requires a "special" bit to be removed. Luckily I had a bit close to what is required in my bit case. The biggest challenge to replacing the assembly was re-assembly. I had to tape the bracket assembly to the outside of the drum to hold it in place so that I could insert the screws from inside the drum.
The screws had wear and needed replacing. The three replacement screws cost over $5.00 each, and shipping is $10.00 for a total of $25.00 plus tax. I went to the local hardware store and purchased three stainless steel screws identical to the original screws for less than $1.50. The only difference between the screws was the replacement screws were phillip head screws. Please note the bracket holes that the screws fit into are not tapped. Purchase an extra screw to pre-tap the holes before assembly.
