Problem
My dryer is only three years old and about 4-5 months ago, it started making a light thumping noise as it was drying. As time went on, the thumping got louder and louder. Found an online site that said to replace the idler pulley. Ordered the part from Parts Dr along with a new belt.
Tools
Phillips screwdriver, channel lock pliers.
Repair & Advice
Per several YouTube videos, I disassembled the dryer cabinet. Removing the drum belt and drum, I removed the pulley by taking off the lock washer. That portion was easy and similar to the videos I had watched. However, all of the videos and instructions showed one person (who I’m sure has done this a million times) putting the drum back in with the belt in place and, with one hand, reached inside and “rolled” the belt on the pulley. Doesn’t work for a novice. But I went to Sharemyrepair.com and saw a perfect picture of how the belt was supposed to look on the idler pulley and motor pulley and with the help of an additional person, we were able to get it on correctly.
