Problem
GE range-the oven wouldn’t hold the correct temp; oven temp varied 25-100 degrees compared to temp set on control panel
Tools
1/4” socket & a nut driver on electric drill
Repair & Advice
First, borrow or purchase a very accurate oven thermometer.
Lift the front of range and put two washer cloths under height adjusters so range will slide easily. Move one of the wire shelves inside the oven to the bottom to get it out of the way (when you look in the oven, temp sensor is in upper left corner). Remove 2 screws inside the oven that hold the sensor in place. Slide oven out away from the wall far enough to get behind it. TAKE CARE not to damage or loosen the electric cord or gas line. Remove the access panel behind the temp sensor only (you do not have to remove the entire range back-there is a smaller access panel specifically for the temp sensor) by removing 8 screws. Unclip (unplug) the temp sensor on the back of range then go around to the oven-side and pull the sensor out.
Gently push insulation back and put the new sensor, plug end, through the hole & plug it back in. Replace the screws in the access panel on the back of the range. Replace the 2 screws that hold the sensor in place inside the oven.
Time to test the oven temp. Put the oven thermometer in the oven so you can see it through the oven window (may need a flashlight). Set the temp on the control panel to 350 degrees. Wait until it reaches temp then check the temp through the door. You can adjust the temp up or down slightly by reading your user manual under “special features” & “adjust the oven temperature”. Make small adjustments until you get the oven temp the same as what”s reading on the control panel.
