Ice bucket freezing over and could not be removed from unit

I bought a new ice bucket to replace the one that came with the unit, it seems to be working well so far. Ice still dams up over time, but I can now remove the ice bucket (so far it hasn't gotten frozen and stuck to the ice maker, fingers crossed!) and dump the ice and start over with fresh ice. This has been an on-going and very frustrating problem with this particular Whirlpool refrigerator. The questions below do not go into enough detail.... yes, it was easy (but NOT cheap) to just replace the ice bucket. It took weeks and months to figure out what was causing the problem and I'm still not 100% sure about it, other than it's a manufacturer's defect.

I just would like to thank the customer service rep I talked to at Parts Dr. The part I ordered said it might not fit my refrigerator, yet the picture looked just like my part. I called customer service who gave me another part no. and said even though this second part number also had the same disclaimer, he was fairly certain the part would fit, as it was in his Kitchenaid manual that it would. I took a chance and ordered it and saved $140.00 and the part fit perfectly. Thank you.
