Repair & Advice
Our 11 year old KitchenAid KSCS25FTSS side-by-side refrigerator/freezer's compressor began cycling very quickly and non-stop a few months ago. I searched online and found out that this is a known issue with this and similar models. On the main control board, a certain capacitor blows out and causes the issue. The gentleman from the web post fixed his issue by soldering a new capacitor onto the control board. We tried that but with our pitiful soldering equipment, we just ended up ruining the board. Luckily he also gave the information for the "fix" that Whirlpool/KitchenAid came out with, which is a redesigned control board. We ordered it from Parts Dr with overnight shipping ($24.00 -- Not bad from SD to SC!) The part was shipped and arrived the next day as promised. It was a good bit larger than the original board, and the part number didn't match the number we ordered, so we thought they had sent the wrong one. We called Parts Dr and they asked for photos of what we received. In just a few minutes we received a response, that although it looked different and the numbers didn't match, it was in fact the right part. So we shrugged and said "What do we have to lose?" and took the included instructions and went to work. The replacement board and its housing is a good bit larger than the original, and we had to use a little brute force to make it fit, but when we hooked up the leads from the harness, she started right up and has been right on temp ever since. While the replacement board was not as cheap as the original fix we tried, it certainly works better, and it's much less expensive than buying a new cabinet-depth fridge. Thanks, Parts Dr! We will return to your store for our future parts needs.
