Problem
Maytag A606 worked great, except it leaked from center / underside of outer tub.
Tools
Usual hand tools + Dremel with cut-off wheel to remove corrosion 'welded' tub nut and steel bearing sleeve.
Repair & Advice
While replacing the tub seal, I also replace the bearing. This requires removing the outer tub, which is secured with (3) 5/16'' bolts to the outer tub's gimballed support 'arms'. The original rubber seals under the bolts' heads were old / compressed and I doubted would seal adequately after removing and rebolting. To my surprise, the bearing kit included new lock washers (not necessary), but did NOT include new rubber washers. Thankfully, my local Ace Hardware stocked 5/16'' neoprene washers, which I backed with brass washers under the heads of the tub bolts. After reassembly, no leaks. Also, lesson learned, BEFORE re-installing (3) outer tub bolts, loosen the double-nutted eye bolts securing the lower hooks of (3) large springs attached to gimballed support arms. Then, retighten eye bolts. Otherwise, it's a very tough fit to install the last of (3) outer tub bolts.
