Repair & Advice
The freezer door switch worked intermittently and along with the faulty water intake valve and malfunctioning ice maker, these all had to be replaced to have the ice maker function. Note: if the door switch doesn't work, the ice maker will not function - it's a safety feature to protect the user from a working ice maker if the door was opened. The door switch replacement was easy and took about 10 minutes. UNPLUG the refrigerator for safety! I used a plastic credit card but you could use any pry tool to remove the switch. If you use a plastic putty knife, you will not mar the refrigerator surface although I have seen people use a metal screwdriver with predictable results. Simply push down from the top of the light switch to depress the plastic retainer and twist to nudge the switch away from the freezer door. At that point pull the switch out and remove the three wires which are marked on the switch, in case you forget the correct placement. Plug the three wires into the new switch, push the switch in the door and you are done.
