Problem
No self-defrost, evap coil turns into a block of ice and the freezer does not freeze. Self defrost system was not working.
Tools
Youtube videos, screwdrivers, and a 1/4 inch nut driver.
Repair & Advice
YouTube videos were essential. The hardest thing was finding where the timer was in the freezer. I learned I could advance the original timer by advancing it's "time" with a screwdriver. Watching the input current (amps) to the freezer, seeing a 3.5 amp load when the timer "clicked" told me the heater coil and defrost thermostat were working, followed by a drop in current some minutes later as the internal thermostat shut it down. The timer did not advance on its own, so I replaced it. Most of my time was spent learning about the freezer system. Replacing the part was very easy.

1/4” nut driver
Repair & Advice
The freezer was not running. I advanced the defrost timer(it was stuck in defrost), and the freezer came on. I used a 1/4” nut driver to remove and replace the defrost timer
