Problem
Whirlpool Gold refrigerator area wasn't getting cold. The freezer compartment would almost let things thaw.
Tools
1/4" hex driver.
Repair & Advice
When I first was troubleshooting it seemed that it was a bad Capacitor. I had already cleaned the coils underneath, and tested the compressor with a meter. Also my fan in the freezer was turning just fine. Got the Capacitor ordered, put it on and seemed to help, or it was wishful thinking. Things in freezer started frosting. Trouble shot some more. Pulled the ice maker out and removed the back inside panel of the freezer. The air flow area had frozen ice in it. Removed the ice, replaced the back panel. Worked better at cooling somewhat for a couple days and fridge area again wasn't cooling. Repeated the above and same outcome. Ice buildup. Freezer fan running BUT it didn't seem to be pushing the cold air to the fridge to cool it. So now it was a toss up,,,bad damper, or fan motor. I chose the fan motor. Ordered it from Parts Dr. and it arrived MUCH earlier than expected. Only a couple days. Went to a you tube video, removed the inside back of freezer for the umpteenth time, pulled the old motor per video, put the new motor on and voila!!! The motor was my problem. The original one wasn't froze up and still moved freely, just not fast enough! 40 minutes later it was completed and she's running like brand new =D So just because the fan is moving does not mean it's working properly!!! BTW I'm a determined female pushing 60 (ugh) and am very proud I got it done! Much much cheaper than pitching a 8 yr.old fridge for a new one :)

Problem
Freezer iced up, fridge warm.
Tools
Nut driver, small screw driver to pry covers off screws.
Repair & Advice
Took awhile to defrost freezer. Removed covers in rear of freezer to access fan motor. One clip harness and one spade connector to unhook and hook to new motor. Easy repair for most people, fixed the issue. Replacing fan motor only takes about 20-30 minutes if no defrosting necessary.
