Problem
Refrigerator did not cycle properly. Tapping thermostat housing would stop compressor.
Tools
1/4" nut driver
Repair & Advice
Refrigerator would run a long time or stop and restart 30-60 secs. Tapping the thermostat housing by hand would shut it off. Not exactly "classic" symptoms but enough suspicion to try a new thermostat.
There were no instructions with the part but I found video instructions on line from another parts distributor that matched my setup exactly. Instructions were to remove screw, allowing the housing to pivot down, disconnect two wiring connectors and remove housing. Then perform replacement outside of the appliance. I was unable to get the connectors separated but there was enough access with the housing down to remove wires from the existing thermostat and remove old one.
The new thermostat had different wire terminal locations. A quick conversation with customer service confirmed that polarity was not a concern. With that info I was able to install new thermostat. Bending the ground terminal was necessary to clear the housing but this had been predicted in the video. All went back together pretty easily despite the close quarters.
Two weeks later, seems to be functioning properly, with no quick-cycling. Calibration seems the same as the original. Assuming this continues, $50 may have bought me a few more years with my current appliance.

Problem
Bad Thermostat, fridge cool but not cold
Tools
1/4 drive nut driver, and channel locks
Repair & Advice
Replacement part wasn't the same as failed part, had to bend up with channel locks to fit into place. New part functions as it should. Customer support worked with me to make sure I had the correct part.
