Problem
When trying to start the dryer by pushing in the start knob, the dryer made a buzzing noise and would not start. Holding down the door switch while turning the tub by hand sometimes helped it to get started but then it was shutting off before the clothes were dry and turning the tub by hand was not helping. I had checked the belt, cleaned out the vents and the cabinet. The motor seemed to turn ok by hand but there was some resistance.
Tools
Screw ,driver, nut driver, pliers, pry bar and hammer (to reattach motor mounting hold downs
Repair & Advice
The motor was fairly easy to replace. When trouble shooting i had disassembled the dryer including taking out the drum in order to get to the motor. I thought perhaps there was a thermal switch shutting down the motor because the motor was all gunked up as well as a lot of lint in the cabinet. I removed the motor, took it outside and cleaned it good with motor cleaner spray (auto store). After I reinstalled I still had the same problem. Finally narrowed it down to a probable bad spot in the motor winding. I found on a site how to test the winding with a multi-meter. I also found there was a technique to remove the motor with out taking the drum out so removing the motor the second time to replace it was much easier. Its a fairly simple fix. The hardest part was getting the two spring clamps back that hold the motor to the bracket back on. I ended up using a pry bar that just fit in the lip of the spring clamp and a hammer to wack it down. I could not apply enough pressure with just a screw driver or pliers to get these spring clamps back in place. It took me about half hour to replace the motor but that was the third time id had the dryer apart and I knew exactly how to remove the motor and i had already cleaned everything in the cabinet so there were no distractions. It took me several accumulated hours over a couple of days to diagnose the problem and get to that point.

Problem
Oil impregnated motor bearings ran dry: froze the motor when it warmed up. Flooding the ends of the bearings with ATF helped, but not much.
Tools
Nut driver, mainly, plus a pair of sockets.
Repair & Advice
This motor replaced the original motor, and restored the dryer to functionality. These older Amanas are easy to disassemble: Start with the two screws at the bottom of the front panel, and as more screws are visible, remove them. The panel supporting the front of the drum is supported on two tabs: lift it slightly to remove. The belt goes under the tension idler to the right of the drive pulley: look at how it's installed before you remove the drum. The blower is threaded on; use a wrench on the blower and another on the shaft by the pulley.
