Problem
GE PFSS6PKWASS stopped cooling/freezing but the condenser could be started in a manual mode which would cool for a short period of time.
Tools
screwdriver & needlenosed plyers
Repair & Advice
I came home from vacation with the fridge tepid but not warm. But not cold enough to maintain food. I could get the condenser to come on but it would run for awhile and shut off. After doing all the tricks people suggested (on google searches) I narrowed it down the condenser starter/controller or mother board. I called for a service call from GE (only $100 but 3 days out) and the tech was really great. He agreed with all my troubleshooting conclusions, he tested the condenser/starter and controller which were fine and said it was most likely the mother board. He gave me a quote or $640 to replace motherboard (included the 2nd service call) and told me to click on the accept option of the email if I wanted GE to do it. I found the part for $257 at PartsDr.com and ordered it. I chose the std 2-5 day delivery and was amazed it arrived the next day (less than 24 hrs from ordering). I put the part in, very easy, but nothing happened for about 20 minutes. (yes I was a little nervous) but apparently it needed to establish communications and once it did it's worked like new. Very happy to get the fridge back in proper order and at a very reasonable price considering everything.
