Problem
Refrigerator would not defrost automatically.
Tools
Screwdriver and but driver used.
Repair & Advice
After troubleshooting the defrost system components, I narrowed the problem down to a faulty defrost timer. It only took about 15 minutes to change out the part and verify the system would go into defrost mode. Just make sure the refrigerator is unplugged and also allow a 24 hour period to allow the temp to regulate after installing the new part.

Problem
Refrigerator not defrosting.
Tools
Tools needed 1/4 nut-driver, needle nose pliers, #2 philips- head screw driver.
Repair & Advice
My Kenmore 21 cu ft. model 3638791512 began accumulating ice inside the freezer due to defrost cycle failure. I replaced defrost timer and defrost thermostat now everything is back to normal defrosting every ten hours .
Install defrost timer :
Installation of timer is very easy, first unplug your refrigerator ( always when servicing ) remove cover from controls located inside refrigerator compartment , remove the two 1/4 inch screws, unplug wire harness located in right corner of control box to allow controls to drop down a bit to gain access, now remove the one screw retaining timer, pull timer up enough to unplug wires , you may need needle nose pliers to pull wires away from device. Now position new timer which only fits one way, tighten screw and continue installation in reverse order.
Note: You may find the area very tight to work in however this repair is very easy. Also allow at least 24 hours run time for temperatures to return to normal.
