Screwdriver, Nutdriver, needle nose pliers.
Repair & Advice
My 5-year old GE Profile refrigerator decided to go out to lunch. The ice and water dispenser operation became erratic, the front panel lights would flicker, and periodically a sequence of loud clicking noises would emerge from the back of the fridge. Thankfully the thing still kept the food and freezer cold.
Many appliance repair sites and YouTube videos pointed to a faulty main control board. Using these sites I verified that both the compressor fan motor, and the cold air circulation fan motor were still running. I read that swapping a main control board with a shorted motor in place could fry the new board. I decided to take a chance and spend $180 on the main board.
Regular shipping on the board was incredibly fast. I had my repair part in two days. I rate the repair itself as easy. Just watch a couple of relevant YouTube Videos, take some digital photos of the existing main board before you start work, and the swap should take you less than 30 minutes.
I took my time, and carefully vacuumed up the years of dust buildup at the back of the fridge which added at least 10 minutes to my total repair time.
This was about the easiest repair ever. When I plugged the fridge back in, my ice dispenser began to work again. Thank You Parts Dr! I saved hundreds of dollars on this repair!
