Problem
Loud creaking sound multiple times per day -and - night. Determined it was a very slow opening and closing of the evaporator door inside the refrigerator cabinet.
Tools
The cover came off by removing two screws. The motor (that was failing) was held in place by two clips.
Repair & Advice
The hardest part was determining the source of the problem. I snapped a picture of the motor with my phone to be able to see the part number. It was easy to find the part in this site, ordered it and installed it the next day!

Problem
Refrigerator making intermittent noises
Tools
Screwdriver
Repair & Advice
Intermittent noises coming from the refrigerator were getting more persistent and annoying. The hard part was figuring out where the noise was coming from - I found a video showing how to get the vent cover off inside the fridge without breaking it (firmly pull out from the bottom first by hand). When I got the cover off and could see that the noise was coming from the damper / control motor because the damper door was opening and closing in synch with the noise. Changing out the part took about five minutes - remove two screws, depress two plastic tabs, and unplug the electrical connector - same steps in reverse to install. I did not bother to unplug the fridge from the wall. The replacement part works great. We think the original damper control might have been defective from the start - we have had this refrigerator for seven years and in all those years it was never as quiet as it is now.
