Repair & Advice
It was pretty straightforward to replace the speed controller in my Kitchenaid Professional 600 mixer. I just had to unplug the mixer and remove one screw that held on the "beauty band" trim around the mixer then four screws that hold the top cover on. The speed controller has four wires on it that I removed with needle nose pliers. They took more pressure than I expected. The board is held in place with two screws and the integrated speed sensor has to be unclipped from where it goes. It was very obvious how to remove the board once the top was off.
Make sure to label the wires before you remove them from the dead board! The only thing that was a challenge for a moment was that the new board had different labels on two of the connectors where the wires go and are in different locations. Motor 1 and Motor 2 were obvious but the connectors marked with colors didn't match between the two boards. I had to look closely at the boards to see a secondary letter/number label printed on them that matched a similar label on the old board. Once I found that I was able to match up where the last two wires went. Do NOT only go by the color names printed on each board!
I plugged in the mixer and tested it before I unplugged it again and put the top back on. Easy peasy and I'm glad to have the mixer working again.
