Problem
Switch short circuited
Tools
1/4 socket set and putty knife
Repair & Advice
Removed screws supporting down draft to exhaust fan and then lifted cooktop to counter and supported it with board. Removed glass top mounting screws with the 1/4 docket set and then set cooktop glass to side. Labeled each wire from the shorted switch out and removed one at a time and installed on new switch. Also replaced the box light. Reinstalled everything in reverse order.

Problem
Heating element on Jenn-Air (JED8430BDB) would only work on high. The switch was “open” and could not be adjusted between temperatures. This switch is for the dual burner and was an exact match and fit.
Tools
Razor knife, 5 or 7mm socket, Phillips screwdriver.
Repair & Advice
1. Kill power. 2. Use a razor knife to cut perimeter caulk from glass top and counter top. 3. Cut duct tape around vent. 4. Lift straight up from underneath using caution to not break glass top. 5. Use a 5 or 7mm socket ratchet for 6-8 perimeter screws. 6. Carefully lift up to remove glass top from frame. 7. Remove the 2 switch screws. 8. Remove and replace each wire, one at a time, making certain you get the positions correct; there are several wires. To replace, reverse the order of these instructions. I was quoted $300 from a repair company, I did it myself with very little experience for $40 and 45 minutes.
