Problem
Dishwasher would fill and drain, but when it would switch to wash cycle, it wouldn't do anything
Tools
Screwdriver/power drill with screw driver bits, pliers, nut drivers for hose clamps
Repair & Advice
I don't have the tools required to pull diagnostic codes from washer so I just did some simple process of elimination. The washer clearly filled ok and drained just fine, but when it should be washing it just did nothing. Risking $90 on a new wash pump kit was cheaper than a GE repairman or a new dishwasher. The pump was easy to replace. The only "issue" was that the pump wasn't an EXACT fit. (IE the bracket that holds the new pump in place was about 1/4" long than the previous, the connectors for the wiring harness were different) so it took a little work to get the new pump to fit perfectly and I had to switch the wiring harness (new wiring harness is included with new pump, just didn't originally intend to replace). Once it was diagnosed and I had the new part, the actual replacement took maybe about an hour and that included taking the washer out and putting it back into place. Now that it's replaced the unit works like new.

Problem
Circulation pump on washer went out, so the washer wasn't cleaning the dishes.
Tools
Pliers, Screwdriver, ratchet wrench, socket wrench, sockets.
Repair & Advice
Removed the entire washing machine from under the counter and laid it on its back. The instructions that come with the part don't explain anything, so I removed each individual connection on the old wiring harness an replaced it with the new connection on the new wiring harness so that it all matched up correctly. For my particular application, I didn't need to use all of the hose clamps but it was nice having extras available. The trickiest part of the whole installation is getting the motor in place with the alignment tab while also getting the hoses connected at the same time. It took a few minutes of moving it around before everything connected correctly. There was also a metal cover that covered the wiring connected on the old pump that will not go back onto the new pump.

Repair & Advice
Original motor brushes wear fast and uneven. If black carbon dust is present on floor and around motor, it is probably this. Symptom was pump starting to work, but stopping intermittently during cycle. New motor has different connector-must replace entire wire harness. This almost seemed harder than the pump itself. First time didn't remove entire dishwasher (when removing and troubleshooting motor). Second time just removed entire dishwasher. Just accept that this will be done, it is much easier than doing all underneath the unit. (Intentionally made water line in, power lines in, and discharge line out long enough on initial installation to be able to slide appliance out still connected). Hose clamps are narrow, not typical aftermarket width. Need the new ones. Careful removing old crimped clamps. No barbs for hoses, so clamps must be tight and in right spot or will leak. Put clamps on loose first in an orientation that will allow tightening. Not much room for tools. Add film of soap on rubber to help slip on. Fit small port on first. Flex, wriggle, gently pry to get on large port which wants to fold under itself. Then flex entire asm and use screwdriver to get hanger in place. Don't try to hang first then get rubber on, I couldn't make that work. Careful at control board where wires need to plug in. Don't want to create a new problem. Just connect each peripheral on the harness one at a time so you know where they go.
