- Drain Pump Kit
CustomerJuan from NC
Dishwasher was not draining at all. The pump was making an unusual sound. It was receiving power but was not pumping the water out.
Screwdrivers, small socket wrench, flashlight and flat pan for the water.
Repair & Advice
Before all disconnect the electricity to your dishwasher. Remove as much water as possible from inside the dishwasher. Remove the small front cover that is between the door and the floor. Only two screws. this will let you see under the dishwasher and plan before moving it outside the cabinet. Check for water leaks and obstructions. Also for the length of electrical wires and hose. The pump that removes the water will be connected to a hose that goes to the drain or garbage disposal. Before removing the dishwasher to your kitchen floor decide whether your floor could get damaged by the legs and water pouring (In my case, hard wood floor does not like scratches, neither the wife). Use a blanket or similar to protect the floor. After removing the dishwasher from the cabinet you will need to tilt it to reach the bottom were the pump is. Check for the length of the hose before overstretching it. Even if you removed the water from inside the dishwasher, you will see some water remains in the system and it will come out when the appliance is tilted. Get a flat pan or bowl to collect eh water an avoid an extra mess. (if you don't want to put it completely on the side get some to hold it half way down, anyone is good, it is not heavy) When you gain access to the pump is very simple. Disconnect the electrical plug. Remove the flex hose (some more water may come out, but not much). Loose the pipe clamp that hold the pump to the bottom of the dishwasher and release the metal wire (L shape metal) that holds the pump from falling. After that, remove the pump from the appliance. To install just reverse the steps. In my case, the last metal clamp was damaged during the removal but Part Dr. provided enough clamps to replace it with a new one (it would be nice to have one that is one size smaller to have less to adjust, anyway thanks Part Dr for the kit) Parts Dr shipping was done very fast and received on time as expected. (Ordered Sunday and by Saturday the dishwasher was working again) The job itself is fast. What it takes time is the preparation and put away.
