Problem
Washer would not start cycle due to lid lock failure
Tools
Screw gun with 1/4” socket; 5/16” wrench
Repair & Advice
It’s s fairly easy install. You take out 8-10 screws, swords the lid, then replace the switch. I think it took me 30 minutes. There’s great YouTube videos that can help.
It’s amazing that Parts Dr can get a part to me the next day, when Whirlpool’s own repair technicians tell me it will be 3 weeks before they get the part. And it’s under warranty. I feel Whirlpool’s warranty contractors are absolutely useless.

Problem
Lid would not lock preventing washer from starting
Tools
Small Flathead screwdriver/pick and 1/4” hex shank with ratchet/gun
Repair & Advice
I was foolish and tried to pry up the edge of my washer lid after starting a cycle to stuff in one missed sock… the latch broke and then the washer would no longer start (it would just give a continuous clicking sound like the latch was trying to lock but could not).
This latch was an exact match for my new Whirlpool washer. It’s a simple matter of removing the latch cover, pivoting out the latch, removing the wiring harness from a couple of clips, and then getting to the connector to remove it.
The connector can be accessed from the back - I just removed the upper metal back panel (after unplugging the machine of course) and was able to reach my hand in to undo the connector from the board without having to remove the lid or the upper/front face of the controls. Installation was a simple reverse of the above.
Works perfectly like before I broke it out of impatience!
