When the lights went out on our Whirlpool refrigerator, I found a video on Parts Dr. that not only described the problem, but provided a simple solution. Using only the metal paint scrapper to push the locking tabs, I was able to (just as laid out in the video) remove and replace the defective light. It took two different lights to find the burnt out on (the video explains that the lights, like Christmas tree lights, are in series and thus if one goes, so do the rest). On my particular model, the freezer lamp is also in series with the top lights of the refrigerator, so with the replacement of that one, all the top lights came back to life!!

Freezer light (led) went out.

Putty knife, screw driver, LOTS of force

Took way more effort as the refrigerator manufacturers foamed the light in place. It was very stuck. After eventually getting it out, new part went in perfectly and solved the problems.
