Problem
Repair tech told us our washer needed a new gearcase assembly.
Tools
Basics - screwdriver, ratchets, wrench.
Repair & Advice
We followed a repair video on youtube. Getting the washbasket free from the gearcase was the only difficulty, because the part was so worn down and corroded, but no surprises. Took some time, but not especially difficult. Doing it myself saved us from having to buy a new washer.

Problem
As I was told the gear box was the problem. Installation was easy and it performed perfectly.
Tools
Socket wrench and impact.
Repair & Advice
Turns out that the gear box wasn't the issue. It was the shift silonid, however I have a completely rebuilt gear system and I expect it will last for a long while.
