Problem
Stopped pumping water.

Repair & Advice
My dishwasher stopped pumping water which obviously kept it from cleaning the dishes. The tell tale sign that there was no pumping, aside from the noise, was that the detergent was still all stuck to the inside of the door after the wash cycle completed.
Replacing the pump assembly was relatively easy. The hardest part was getting the the levers back on to tighten the whole thing down. It required more force than I expected and my wife needed to push on the assembly from inside the dishwasher.

After install the pump worked fine, but just didn't clean or dry as well as it used to. Turns out that Whirlpool dishwashers have a DIAGNOSTIC MODE which does two things. 1) Tests for issues and gives you a code about what may be wrong 2) resets previously tripped sensors. Since I wasn't getting water, my dishwasher overheated and disabled the heating element. The only way to turn it back on is to run diagnostic mode. If you've solved the underlying problem everything goes back to normal. If you haven't (i.e. it's still overheating) it will trip again.
I recommend running diagnostic mode before you buy anything. To do it on my dishwasher, you hit any 3 buttons in a row and repeat 3 times. (A B C A B C A B C). All of the lights will light up and then the "Clean" (newer models say "Complete") light will start flashing. It will then pause and flash a few more times. These flashes represent a numerical code. So if it flashes 7 times, pauses, and 1 more time then your code is 71. You can try googling the codes or look for the technicians manual. Mine was attached to the piece of plastic that you remove to access under the dishwasher. If you are trying to reset sensors, start a wash cycle after engaging diagnostic mode. It will run for 30m or so and afterwards should be good.
Anyways, it works like new now. Hope this helps.

Problem
Dishwasher would not run wash cycle. Filled & emptied but would not wash.
Tools
Philips screwdriver, large flathead screwdriver, pliers, & rubber hammer.
Repair & Advice
I was a bit confused by the symptoms. The machine would fill up, wait a while and empty, but it would not wash the dishes. I was a bit hesitant to pay much more than $100 for a part, but this fixed it. It is a little difficult to remove the old part & get the new part in place only because the large rubber gasket goes in very tight, but it needs to. This has all the parts already on it except for one part which has to be removed and placed on the new part.

Dishwasher motor stopped working

Unsure - I had our maintenance man put it in
Repair & Advice
My house is a rental. We had purchased this dishwasher just a couple of years ago, so were surprised when the motor stopped working, as this was a higher-end dishwasher than we normally use in our standard rentals. I was very happy that I was able to find this part online at a decent price so we didn't have to replace the entire dishwasher. Our maintenance man was able to install it without much difficulty, (this was his first time installing this type of pump and motor assembly, but he was able to figure it out), and the dishwasher is again working just fine. Thank you!
