Problem
Pump burned out in my Whirlpool washer.
Tools
Screw driver and pliers.
Repair & Advice
My washer is in the garage and I used it during the freezing temperatures. The pump would not come on even when the temperatures warmed up. I drained the washer tub with a garden hose and leaned it back at 45 degree angle to access the pump at the tub. I disconnected the hose, unplugged the wires and took out the three screws securing it to the tub. I reversed the process with the new pump I got from the Parts Dr. I ran a test cycle and it worked perfectly.

Problem
Washer would not drain. Had trouble accessing diagnostics during to that as well.
Tools
Phillips head screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, slip joint pliers and an 8mm nut driver
Repair & Advice
The machine wouldn't drain. Without it draining you cannot easily get into machine diagnostics. I manually drained it then tipped it over. Found the pump exterior to be damp. I assumed the seal was seeping and shorted the motor out. Found the original part number was superseded by this one. Took a nearly 100 dollar gamble. It worked. Replacing the pump is easy. I did it a few days ago now but, I as I remember it's one hose out to the drain, the rubber grommet that goes into the tub and three screws that holt the assembly to the tub. I think the screws were either 8mm or so hex heads or phillips. You need to pop the cover over the plu end on the pump as well. A small flat blade screwdriver will open it up. Silicone lubricant would be good on the grommet where it goes in the tub, but not necessary.
