Problem
Transmission was leaking and tripping the gfci

I ordered a spanner wrench from eBay and it took 3weeks to arrive. I used a hammer and punch to remove the spanner nut
Repair & Advice
I replaced the transmission on my Maytag Bravos washing machine and the most difficult part of the job was removing the spanner nut since it is at the bottom of the drum and had corrosion bonding it to the drive shaft I worked it with PB blaster and it took 3 days about an hour per before I had the transmission out because I didn’t want to destroy the drum. I ordered the new spanner nut to mate with the new transmission. If your doing this type of job be patient and careful and you will prevail

Grinding noise with washplate & transmission shaft. Had to remove spanner nut to remove drum to replace transmission

Spanner wrench tool, purchased on Amazon- not available through parts dr.
Repair & Advice
Once washplate removed, with spanner nut tool removed old spanner nut & drum. Used new spanner nut for reassembly.

Spanner wrench. Saw a video of using a hammer and chisel also.

Purchase a spanner wrench. It makes removal and assembly very easy.
