Problem
Ice maker not making ice
Tools
Phillips screw driver, 1/4” nut driver, regular screw driver
Repair & Advice
To begin with the little funnel at the back of the ice maker was broken off of the new ice maker. Probably got broken during shipment. So I had to take the funnel off the old ice maker and install it onto the new ice maker. This was accomplished by taking both ice makers completely apart. Didn’t want to take the brand new maker apart , but I had no choice. The new ice maker did not come with any instructions, but was able to find them on the internet. The instructions are very necessary so as to install the right parts and wire loom for your particular refrigerator. After I got all of the above issues taken care of it was a pretty simple and straight forward repair. We now have lots of ice.

Problem
Ice maker didn't work.

Repair & Advice
The ice maker in my Maytag (made by Whirlpool) ice maker quit working. Spent some time on the net and found some videos on how to test the ice maker using jumper cables and the holes in the front of it as well as how to remove it from the refrigerator. The water fill valve worked but the it appeared that the ice maker was dead. Ordered the new factory part from Parts Dr. I order second day shipping and I had it in three days. The new part came with two wiring harnesses and it was clear which one went with my ice maker. The new ice maker has to be mounted into the ice maker holder and a new wiring harness put in. Although it wasn't technically difficult it took some time and caution and manual dexterity to get the new wiring harness in. It is important to get it placed correctly so that when the whole module slides into the refrigerator nothing catches, it is a tight fit. I could not figure out how to get the green ground wire from the original wiring harness off of the ice maker holder. I had no tools that would reach the screw. I cut it that ground wire and used a wire nut to connect the ground wire from the new wiring harness to the ground on the ice maker holder. Replacing the module was simple, two or three screws come out and it comes off and you put the new one back on. When you put the bail on that detects that the ice maker is full, it may not look like it goes down far enough. Don't force it or move the motor. Once you put it in the refrigerator it will all work out.
It is important to check on line to learn how to get the ice maker holder in and out of the refrigerator, it isn't immediately obvious. It is also important to make sure the cable along the side doesn't get caught when putting the ice maker back in. And it takes a really good "push" to get the ice maker module. You can tell because when it is properly seated the ice maker module will click into the latch on the side.
And it worked. I was amazed. First real repair I've made on an appliance.
I don't think the difficulty level was really very high, but it take a little dexterity and patience to get the wiring harness correctly mounted and routed to the module. It is also important to find videos on line that show you how to take the ice maker out. It is pretty clear where all the connectors go, I don't think it is possible to get a connector in the wrong place or inserted backwards.
