Problem
Soap dispenser wouldn't open during wash cycle
Tools
Star-tipped screwdriver, flat-blade screwdriver, pliers, putty knife
Repair & Advice
Mostly a simple repair with one exception. Found a great YouTube video that walked me through it. The one difficult part was getting the old soap dispenser out; it's held in place by metal flanges on all four sides. The get it out, you have pry up each flange with the flat-blade screwdriver and then push the putty knife under it to keep it from snapping back into place. There are 4 flanges along the top and bottom, so you have to pick a side and work the putty knife underneath all four. It's a tight fit so it takes some effort, plus it's sharp metal edges so you have to be careful you don't slip and cut yourself.
Once you get the putty knife across all four flanges on the top or bottom, you can pry up the flange on the left or right side with the screwdriver and start pushing the old dispenser forward. You may need a second screwdriver or putty knife to hold one side in place while you do the other side. Once you have the flanges held up on three sides, you can push the dispenser forward. Again, it's a tight fit, so be careful you don't slip and cut yourself on the metal flanges.
The rest of the repair is fairly straight-forward. Getting the front of the dishwasher back in place takes a little effort but not too bad.

Problem
The dispenser door spring fell out of the original unit and the door would not open during the wash cycle.
Tools
Torx drive and a handful of butter knives (no joke)
Repair & Advice
I took the outer door off of door frame by removing the short torx screws and then was able to get to the back side of the dispenser. It is held in by tabs cut into the stainless door frame and I used butter knives to work in-between stainless metal tab and the plastic housing and the old unit practically fell out. it sounds silly, but worked like a dream. One electrical connection on unit and the new unit snaps firmly into opening. The door took two people to reinstall to prevent damage, but was otherwise easy. It was not a hard job if you have any mechanical experience. Not recommend for the home-gamer watching YouTube.

Problem
The lid for my kitchenaid dishwasher soap dispenser broke.
Tools
Have not installed the replacement yet
Repair & Advice
In looking at the new part, I learned the original part was not broken where I thought it had been. Instead, I found the spring mechanism was not inserted properly. So I change that and my original seems to be working. However, I was so pleased with the replacement product and its cost that I'm holding on to it just in case.
