Repair & Advice
A bad thermistor was the most likely cause of the F8E5 code our Whirlpool microwave/convection combo oven mounted to the cabinets over our range. I was able to determine gets some diagnostic help and determine the correct replacement part from info online. While I could find no specific videos or instructions for the repair of our exact oven, the steps required seemed pretty universal and did not require the oven to be unmounted. After unplugging the power cord, remove the bottom cover (12 screws) to access where the thermistor is located inside a small black box mounted to the oven. Remove the top, plastic vent cover (3 screws) to allow access to a single screw which secures the right side panel where the control board is mounted. Remove the screw at the top of the panel and slide the panel up to get four clips to release from slots in the oven. Pull the panel with the board attached away from the oven just enough to access the back of it. Remove the thermistor box under the oven, trace the wires to the control board and unplug the small connector there. Replace the old thermistor inside the black box, mount it back to the bottom of the oven, stuff the connector through the hole where the box is mounted and pull the wire up a bit and reconnect to the control board. Reattach the side cover, vent cover and metal bottom plate and that's it. After reconnecting power and setting the clock, the oven works and no more error code. Most of the time spent is just removing multiple screws and, for me, finding the ones I dropped.
