Spin cycle extremely noisy. Work in industrial repair field so to me it was an obvious bearing failure.

Two putty knives, assortment of wrenches, screwdriver, six pack of cold beer.

Glad I waited for the repair kit and enclosed instructions. Was easier than you-tube videos led me to believe. Easy repair-just follow directions. Could be done without recommended tool, but much easier with it. Plus it probably won't be the only time you do this job. I let the sealant on tub seal cure for 24 hours before using washer. Don't pay a repairman if you have even basic skills with hand tools.

The whirlpool bearing kit says it 'requires' a custom bearing install tool. I did not order that. I replaced bearings the 'normal' way. The entire reason for using the install tool is to align the spacer and washer between the bearings, so that when you install the shaft -- it all fits. Just install the top bearing like you would any other bearing. Use an oversize socket (or piece of pipe) that fits the outside of the bearing. I used a sledge hammer that I could tap straight down with. Tapping down -- the basket is on springs to absorb the blow. Several taps later, I could hear the tap sound "change" meaning the bearing had been fully seated. Put the shaft in the bearing, go underneath and install the spacer, washer, and bottom bearing. Light taps around the edge of the bearing seats it, and tightening the nut makes sure all is where it is supposed to be. My personal opinion is that was easier than ordering the $68 custom install tool.

When in a spin cycle, a roar like a jet engine was heard.

Standard hand tools, a short piece of 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" PVC pipe to drive in the bearings and seal. No special "driver" tools needed.

USE A BENT PAPER CLIP. 24 INSTALL TOP BEARING 25 TIP WASHER BACK. USE SAFETY BLOCK 26 INSTALL SPACER, BEARING WASHER & BEARING 27 BEARING WILL EXTEND OUT 1/8" TO 3/16" OF HOUSING. 28 PUT WASHER BACK DOWN ON ITS FEET 29 INSTALL NEW SHAFT. CHECK FOR WIRE PLACEMENT, NO RUBS ETC 34 RE-INSTALL ROTOR, TIGHTEN 1/4" HEX BOLT 35 EVERYTHING SHOULD BE DONE UNDERNEATH TAKE ONE LAST LOOK 36 PUT WASHER BACK DOWN ON ITS FEET 37 GREASE INSIDE OF SEAL, BOTH CAVITIES 38 APPLY ADHESIVE ON OUTER RING OF SEAL 39 INSTALL SEAL 40 APPLY ADHESIVE ON TOP SIDE OF SEAL. WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE PROCEEDING. 41 RE-INSTALL BASKET 42 RE-INSTALL TOP RING, HOSE & HOSE CLAMP 43 RE-INSTALL IMPELLER, TIGHTEN 7/16" BOLT 44 RE-INSTALL IMPELLER CAP 45 DONE !!!
