Repair & Advice
Washer would not drain. Removed the front panel (this required removing the dryer stacked on top, removing the top cover and then the panel). The wire and spring retainer for the bellows needed to be removed.
This gave access to the pump. Removed the hose clips at the pump and removed the pump. The pump has rubber retainers that unsnap from the frame. Tested the pump resistance per the technical instructions that were in a sleeve under the top cover. Pump checked out as good.
Examined the pump: the impeller shaft had become unlocked from the motor housing. The pump motor would run but the impeller would not turn. Replaced the pump.
The most difficult part was reinstalling the bellows retainer. I used a needle nose pliers to stretch the spring. Whirlpool has a video that shows how to do this. The hose clamps are somewhat difficult to access. I tried a couple of different pliers and channel locks until I found the right combination.
Also took the opportunity to check and clean the drain hose.
