Problem
Kitchen-Aid Ice-maker stopped making ice
Tools
Basic tools: mostly screwdrivers & nut-drivers
Repair & Advice
To change out the Inlet Valve: right part; easy swap.
• Difficulty: Easy
• Time: 15-30 minutes.
• Tools: some screwdrivers (Phillips #2 & #3) & nut-drivers (IIRC ? 3/16" & 5/16")
• Some instructional pieces showed an open-end wrench helping to disconnect water lines from the shark-bite fitting; but, I just used a flat-blade screwdriver - they slid right out.
For ~ $ 130 and 15-30 minutes, saved me replacing a $ 3,000 ice maker.
Parts Dr. - prices, ordering, and delivery were outstanding! They had good pics so I could determine correct part. The manufacturer changed part numbers (my original part number was not listed anywhere) - so the pics were essential in finding the right part. THIS part of the process (parts/systems research) took a while. But, Parts Dr. (with the pics), really helped - all good.
Note: The product manual (and wiring diagram) that came with the ice-maker was virtually worthless in helping me diagnose the problem and / or identify the correct part.
HOWEVER, to figure out which part/system was not working properly was a bear - really took a lot of disassembly and diagnosis. The ice maker was in a cabinet - YIKES! Luckily, I had access to the rear of the unit through some back-side cabinet drawers where I could work on the electrical and plumbing connections without completely removing the ice-maker unit. Otherwise, the difficulty and time would go up even more.
So... *Total Time* (to disassemble, diagnose, repair): probably 6 hours or more. *Overall Difficulty*: High

Ice maker leaking water.

Repair & Advice
Had some issues removing tubing but it was because I did not understand the connection which I found out can be done by hand. Screwdriver allowed me to remove bracket which had full valve attached. Install was completed in <5 mins as I knew what I was doing.
