Problem
Maytag Dryer Model MEDE300VW0-Loud noise during drum rotation, suspected drum support roller bearing problem
Tools
Various small sizes sockets screw driver, socket wrench for mounting roller shaft shoulder nut, locking pliers to retain non-threaded end of roller shaft when tightening nut, flat blade screwdriver for exhaust vent removal & vacuum cleaner for interior lint accumulation.
Repair & Advice
1. Unplug dryer, remove exhaust vent duct, remove: top panel, power cord connection, heater duct, back panel.
2. Manually rotate drum to determine defective support roller, I believe there are 2 front rollers, and 2 rear rollers.
3. Determined the rear lower roller was defective based on movement. Measured the .500" roller shaft diameter to determine it was not worn. I was able to reuse it. The problem was with the roller bearing sleeve which had become worn at the outer edge of the ID.
4. Note: Roller assembly appeared to have a left hand thread, I there are 2 plastic triangular retaining clips (front & rear). I had to use the locking pliers to prevent shaft rotation when tightening shoulder nut. This was the most difficult part of the repair. Also added a liquid threadlocking adhesive to further ensure it would not become loose over time.
5. Reassemble in reverse order.
