Problem
Dryer would heat and run but timer wouldn't advance to shut dryer back off.
Tools
Phillips screw driver for timer, nut driver for back panel.
Repair & Advice
A few simple steps
1. Unplug the dryer.
2. Disconnect the dryer vent.
3. Turn dryer so that the front faces away from you,(screws to access panel located on the rear side).
4. Remove all screws with a nut driver or small ratchet & socket from the upper rear panel which houses the timer. This panel is normally a small narrow metal cover that can be removed without removing the entire back of the dryer. (Some models may require entire panel removal) if that is the case, don't fear it's still the same steps with a few more screws and possibly a housing cabinet ground wire, (very rare to see, normally held to rear cover with small screw),..(remove that screw and continue).
5. Timer should be accessible now, simply remove the screws holding the timer to the front panel of the dryer,(normally 2 small Phillips screws).
6. Remove all wire harness plugs from timer,( I had to use a small flat screw driver to remove 1 of mine because I couldn't pull it free with my fingers,I only used the flat screw driver to lift gently on the plug to get it started). DO NOT PULL HARNESS WIRES WHEN REMOVING PLUGS FROM TIMER,PULL ONLY ON THE PLASTIC PLUGS THAT ATTACH TO THE TIMER...once all plugs are free from the old timer you are ready to install the new one which is nothing more than reversing these steps.
7. Connect all wire harness plugs to the NEW TIMER, these are made to fit only ONE WAY and will only plug into the area on the NEW TIMER where they belong. ( some models may differ but I have not ever had that issue in years of service work)...gently pull back on each plug to be sure its secure!
8. Simply begin by just following these steps in reverse order...
A. Mount new timer inside dryer.
B. Replace rear panel & screws (ground wire if one was present).
C. Move dryer close enough to wall to allow for Reattaching the dryer vent, this helps keep the vent properly attached if dryer still needs moved during this timer replacement.
D. Plug dryer back in and run dryer through a normal short cycle with or with out heat to be certain timer is advancing. (DOES NOT NEED TO BE A FULL CYCLE, YOU CAN RUN YOUR DRYER FOR JUST 10 MINUTES OR SO,YOUR ONLY MAKING SURE THE NEW TIMER ADVANCES AND TURNS DRYER OFF).
If you have any questions please call a trained service technician, with any home repair there is always risk of damage to person and property.

Problem
Stupid landlord broke the Dryer Knob off and broke the Timer mechanism.
Tools
Socket wrench and pliers for the tight spots
Repair & Advice
As usual, taking apart the dryer back and removing the broken timer took longer than putting in the new timer and new timer knob. But it was actually a very straightforward repair. I was quickly back to laundry duty.
