How to replace Timer part on your Whirlpool Maytag Amana Dryer

Step-by-Step instructions on how to replace the Timer on a Whirlpool Dryer. The dryer timer controls the duration length and various cycle options for the dryer. Internally, the timer contains multiple electrical contacts that open and close at different points of the cycle to control the electrical components of the dryer. If the timer fails, the dryer may not advance through the drying cycles properly. Or, if the electrical contacts inside the timer fail, the dryer can have a wide range of symptoms including not heating, not starting, and more.

Repair & Advice
This was part number 6 that I removed and tested. The first five were the obvious ones that we think of dealing with heat, coils, thermal shutoff, etc. I asked my local store and was told to call an electrician for my "wall" must be broken. That sounds stupid to me so I googled it and found a video of a retired repairman who fixes things that the local shops can't. He traced it to the timer. Sure enough, I removed it and found it so worn that the cogs had slipped. I cleaned it and it worked for a few more months. When it quit heating again knew what to buy.
