Repair & Advice
Hi,
The washer(samsung dual flex washer) was suddenly inoperable with a display error of 18:8J . It's just a year and a half old and its still with a 5 yrs full warranty. JCPenney/Samsung declared it a junk and refunded the full purchase price of $1,200. I guess the parts and labor was more costly than the actual cost of the washer. After some google research about the error code, it was stated that it can be repaired with replacing the display control board ($200). Having given the full refund of the original washer, I decided to give it a try.
Don't forget to unplug the washer before dismantling or installing anything.
To install on my washer, i remove the top panels and containers near the display board. There was 3 screws to be removed before the display cover can be ply open. Without the screws the cover was just snapped on.
Gently remove the 2 cable connectors on the left side on which the display is connected to the washer. The connectors are locked by a clip which can be released by gently pressing on it while disconnecting the cable.
Unscrew the display control boards then gently remove the control board. Then gently place the new board tor the display panel.
Unless you bought the control board which includes the display panel then there's no need for the step to replace the control board.
Gently connect the corresponding cable connectors of the washer to the display control board.
Before putting back the display panel back to the washer with the cable connectors properly plugged to the washer, try turning on the washer if it turns on properly without any error codes. Mine turned on perfectly with the angelic beeping sound of working properly.
Turn off the washer and unplug it again to reinstall the display panels and top cover/ containers.
I tested the washer without any load to see if it works properly and it did perfectly.
With $200 parts cost and a screwdriver, then a 15-30 mins of work time that I was able to fix our washer.
Save me some money to buy a new washer and got the full refund on the original washer.
Do not try to fix the washer if it's still covered by a warranty or else you will void it.
I do not recommend washers with too many computer features. Washers tend to vibrate a lot which is not good to the computer chips and components. Unless manufacturers put computer components of the washer in a protective enclosure against moist and vibration, then it can operate and live longer without breaking down
Cheers.
