Fridge would not defrost and would ice up and quit cooling.

Hair drier, screw driver.

Everything went well. It took longer to melt the ice it be able to remove the back.

Ice build up around the condenser coil, preventing cold air from entering the fridge. The freezer continued to work.

I googled the problem and it appears it was common with the Samsung line. The repair was easy enough that I watched half a YouTube where they identified the problem for me (defrost heater assembly), used the incredibly convenient parts locator on Parts Dr to know which one fit my refrigerator, and received my part within 24 hours with standard shipping (SD to NC!). Took me a few minutes to replace, all the work was just deconstructing the panels piece by piece and not losing them. I’ve never touched a refrigerator before, but with shipping this repair was under $60 and an hour of my time. I was thinking about replacing the fridge - I couldn’t be happier!

Samsung refrigerator heater element replacement.

Philips screwdriver and needle nose pliers.

I unplugged the refrigerator and allowed the ice in the core to melt. I removed the panel and unplugged the connections. Once the panel was removed I disconnected the two plugs from the heater element, lifted the core coward ( be careful not to damage the lines with the refrigerant). Once this was done I removed the clips holding the element and gently removed it. I took off the piece of metal attached to the to the original element and attached to new one . To complete the task reverse the procedure.
