Ice maker in our lower freezer section stopped working.

Just a screwdriver!

We had a LG manufacture technician come to look at our problem. They changed $106.00 just to say we needed a new ice maker kit and wanted to charge $510.00 for a new part and installation. We said NO! We ordered the part which only cost $80.00. I removed 2 screws, unplugged the device, plugged in the new ice maker and replaced the 2 screws. Saved a lot of money $ doing it myself!

LG Model LDC22720ST refrig/freezer icemaker part # MJH618647 Ice maker made no ice for a week..... It could be....... 1) water supply issue 2) a faulty solenoid (not allowing water to flow into the ice maker 3) a faulty main board on the refrigerator 4) a faulty ice maker I checked the easiest of the 4 possibilities first 1) CHECKED WATER SUPPLY: Pulled refrigerator/freezer out and checked for kink in water supply . No kink Positioned a 5 gallon bucket on the back side of the refrig unit Turned icemaker supply valve off inside the wall of the plumbing Disconnected the supply line which leads into the solenoid valve of the refrigerator Placed the end of the supply tubing into the bucket Opened up the wall valve and let water run into bucket until it was about one half full ( 2-3 gallons) Closed the valve. Since water was flowing to the solenoid valve, I reconnected the supply line to the solenoid valve and tightened snugly. 4) CHECKED FOR FAULTY ICEMAKER: The icemaker has a test button on it when pushed allows the arm to swing down and the tray to dump all in the same sequence. When I pushed the button, the icemaker arm did not move at all. Indicating a faulty icemaker. I checked the harness connection to make sure it was snug where the icemaker plugs into the refrigerator. Still no icemaker movement. I ordered a new icemaker at this time because I felt like the main board (item 3 above) was good because on visual inspection it did not have any burned marks. The solenoid (Item 2 above) is cheap to purchase and could have easily been replaced, but I had already decided the icemaker was faulty due to no response from the test button. Ordered the part from Parts Dr... received in two days... Install was very easy and now we have the ice making consistently for three weeks now.
