Repair & Advice
I'm not a DIY enthusiast and was contemplating contacting LG or SEARS for service. But after researching the problem I decided it was a repair I could tackle myself. There is a very helpful instructional video on YouTube on how to do this repair and it is remarkably straight forward. Unusually, the design of the ice making unit makes it simple to replace. The hardest part for me was moving the refrigerator so I could unplug it ! All you need do is remove the freezer drawer, you need a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the drawer on the guides, one screw each side. Get inside the freezer, unplug the faulty unit, unscrew the two screws that are holding it in place. It is also held in place by tabs at the rear so you have to firmly pull down and away. Plug the new unit in, align the new unit up with the tabs at the rear and click into position, screw the unit into place at the front. Put the freezer drawer back and screw to the guides and you are done. Thirty minutes tops. The new unit has been working perfectly for two weeks now. I'm so happy and relieved to have got this done after months of living without an ice maker.
