Whirlpool/ Oven Control Board
Tools
Phillips Screwdriver / Short (stubby) Phillips screwdriver
Repair & Advice
Oven control board burn't out. Some electronic repair attempts were made but were not completely successful. Only foolproof option is to replace the control board.
Unplug the oven and slide the oven forwards.
Use the stubby screwdriver to remove the vent diffuser from between the control panel and the cook top surface (2 screws). While you are down there remove the 2 screws that hold the bottom of the control panel cover.
Remove the 2 screws that hold the back of the control panel cover, these will be on the outer side at the back. It is not necessary to remove the inner screws.
Lift the control panel cover up and out and lay it on a soft layer on the stove top to expose the circuit board.
Disconnect all the wire connectors, they are color coded and sized so they can only go in one place so this is straight forward. It is not necessary to disconnect the flat ribbons to the front display as this is one piece.
Unscrew the 4 screws holding the control board assembly to the control panel cover.
Replace with new control panel and reattach the screws and all connectors. If the ribbon cables are not connected yet then slide them into their sockets and push down on each side of the connector to secure.
Re-installation is the reverse of removal.

Problem
Control panel shorted due to power surge
Tools
Screwdriver
Repair & Advice
The local utility was having a few problems with power surges. We had one in our neighborhood. That blew out the control panel. I tried unplugging the stove and allowing it to reset a couple of times, up to 30 minutes once. Nothing worked. And then a Google search showed that others have had a similar experience. The only solution is to replace the control panel. That worked. It's an expensive but easy fix.

Problem
Temperature not controlled in oven (tried first repl temp probe)
Tools
Screwdriver (incl stubby phillips)
Repair & Advice
Control board was expensive, but replacement rescued our range from replacement for much less. Need stubby phillips head driver or ratchet for screws under front above cooktop. Ribbon cables are color coded and easy to disconnect/reconnect. A gentle nudge from a flathead screwdriver helps loosen old ones. One ribbon has no connector and took a sec to figure out the connection-- just squeeze and pull up to open, push down to clamp the new cable. Overall pretty easy fix for what it is. Great service, packing, time for delivery.
