Problem
Over the course of 8 years, the grommet in our machine was halfway rotten away and needed to be replaced in order to seal properly against the rubber seal of the center spray arm (which we also replaced). We shied away from doing it because the washer has to be pulled out from under the countertop. But eventually we had to replace the grommet.
Tools
5/8" wrench to detach the copper water line.
Phillips screwdriver to remove the toe kick and the screws that connect the washer to the to the countertop.
Torx screwdriver to remove the screw that attaches the delivery tube to the back wall of the tub.
Liquid soap or dishwashing detergent.
Repair & Advice
JUST TO BE SAFE - SWITCH OFF THE CIRCUIT BRAKER FOR THE DISH WASHER!
Remove both dishracks. ATTENTION: The upper dishrack runs on extendable rails that have stop clips. Take your time to remove these clips. If you break them, you have to buy replacements for an insane price.
TURN OFF THE WATER SUPPLY.
Remove the bottom toe and kick plates, detach the water line. Remove the screws that anchor the washer to the countertop. Pull out the washer. Put some rags under the feet to avoid scratching the floor. Make sure that somebody feeds the drain hose through its hole so it would not get ripped off. The power cable was long enough in my case and I could pull the washer out all the way.
The delivery tube runs up along the back of the tub and is fastened with one screw just above the grommet that you want to replace. Take out the screw. The delivery tube sticks in the grommet with a little collar. Just wiggle it out of the grommet. Bend the tube slightly outwards and push the grommet into the tub.
Now add a tiny smidge of liquid soap or dishwasher detergent to the small flange of the new grommet. From inside the tub, wiggle the new grommet into its mounting hole.
Then push the delivery tube back into the grommet. Fasten it with the screw that you took out earlier.
Push the washer back into the opening and do everything above in reverse order.
