Problem
Drain pump seized up
Tools
common nut drivers, pliers, screwdriver
Repair & Advice
Drain pump bearings seized up causing the whole machine to stop spinning. I chatted with Parts Dr to get the right part. Pump came in two days. Easy install. Only advice is don't drop the screws inside like I did or you'll have to take the front off too.

Problem
Worn out washing machine water pump pulley and bearings making a racket.
Tools
Combo of small socket ratchet, socket, and drill set to 1 torque with socket adapter.
Repair & Advice
The 2003 Maytag Performa washer's drain pump pulley system was making a racket and needed to be replaced. Decided to order a new belt too since the unit is old. Learned the hard way that I had to put the belt on the drain pump, tub, and motor pulleys first before screwing in the drain pump. Having a $10 Energizer LED headlamp from Walmart is extremely helpful in keeping your hands free and lighting up the work area.

It's not a difficult job, but you've got to be mindful of the things you need to do and be careful to not create another problem. Have a couple of large towels or a roll of paper towels nearby.
Turn off the H&C water valves first and disconnect the washer electrical cord from the outlet. Disconnect the washer drain hose from whatever drain pipe it's connected to before moving the washer. Carefully pull the washer out a little at a time while checking the H&C water hoses to make sure they don't kink and get pulled to the point of breaking or damaging their metal connecting seal to the inlet ports.
-----
Drain pump needs to be detached from the washer base to aid in belt install. Next, drain pump needs to be pulled back to align it's bracket screw hole to the washer base hole for a screw to be partially installed. Don't tighten the drain pump bracket screws all the way until all screws are threaded in place. Don't over tighten the drain pump screws.
-----
"Remember" to reconnect the large tub water drain hose to the drain pump if you moved it out of view during drain pump install. Otherwise, you'll get a floor full of water during a tub fill/drain test. When pushing the washer back, follow the same careful procedure of watching and manually moving the water hoses in a safe and non-crimping way until you get the washer back to the position you want. Reconnect drain hose to drain pipe, turn on H&C water valves, and plug washer electrical cord back into outlet. Run a small Mini-Load Rinse & Spin test to see if the drain pump is working properly. If all went well, bask in the marvel of your handiness that saved some big money by not calling a repair person.
